“I like the Woolves far more than they like me. Ugh. I have a queer love for Virginia which fills me with emotion when I see her. They talk better than any people I know. How quickly the conversation becomes intelligent and amusing when Virginia talks!” #Carrington, 25 Sept 1923

Sandy is pitch perfect, witty, warm and full of heart. The reader grows to love her characters as much as she does. And that's the magic!

I photographed this lovely rose 2 wks ago before the deluge. Its beauty lies in all its stages & this, taken in early light, captures all, from bud, to unfurling, then open flower. A Whiter Shade of Pale is luminous, scented & compact - here in its 2nd flowering. #garden #rose

As wildly, madly, deeply entertaining as always - the language quite witty and wonderful, in fact very Oscar Wilde. Byron's Teresa Guccioli: "Milord! Fanny is prostrate before the Blessed Virgin in the portico - who has decapitated our Pope?" Jed Pumblechook #Romantic #Regency

A friend has given me 3 lovely big quinces from her orchard. Such historic fruits, I'm going to do as the #Regency cooks did and stew with honey & eat with cream. A quince is the sacred emblem of Aphrodite & was first planted in these isles by Edward l in 1275 #gardening #Recipe

What a fascinating snippet of Lord Byron's ancestry! A fabulous painting too - I wonder how Little he was, and was the enormous Beard some sort of compensation? Thank you, the ever brilliant Jed Pumblechook for this!

I forget that people don’t know. I taught fiction at the University of East Anglia, CityLit &with British Council, Spread the Word, Literature Works, Leverhulme & universities. I love working with people but don’t have the time to teach full courses. So subscribe to my channel 😍

I've mixed feelings about this huge-blossomed rose still abloom here last week. Intense vermillion & scented, but enormous & a Hybrid Tea (HTs pique much snobbery in some gardeners!) It has an hilariously apt name - don't google Buxom Beauty without adding Rose! #garden #Rose

Just noticed my October Surprise! In the Audible Regency Fiction charts I'm THRILLED to breathe the same air as the greatest jane austen novel, Persuasion. Both A Scandalous Match, & A Lady's Fortune are in the Top 10, with superb narrator Jenny Funnell 🙏❤️ #HistoryWritersDay24

Years ago one of my lovely sisters made me this dress from cotton organdie, bought from Camden Market, 50p/mtr. I showed it to artist John Ward RA & he painted a huge picture. Called 'Jane at Florians' he sold it to the then head of WH Smith. The serendipity of life #art #craft
