A new national monument will honor two figures at the center of one of the darkest chapters in civil rights history: Emmett Till, the Black teenager who was abducted and murdered in 1955, and his mother, Mamie Till-Mobley, who ensured his story was never forgotten.

In a historic move, Florida's state Board of Education has approved new, separate standards for how African American history must be taught to millions of students.
