House kills LD 1299 a bill about locking firearms in cars. Judiciary Republican Lead Rep. Jennifer Poirier said the bill, "treads dangerously close to infringing on our second amendment and Maine constitutional rights". The Senate previously voted Ought Not to Pass on the bill.

Senate passes Rep Dhalac's bill LD 1971 to make Maine a sanctuary state. Senator Rick Bennett joined Democrats in support making the bill bipartisan. Bennett gave a floor speech in support of LD 1971. The bill now heads back to the House for final votes.

House votes down 'wants' part of biennial budget 71-77 Republicans cited fiscal restraint and that we are out of other people's money. Dems gave emotional arguments for it. Rep Milliken (D) gave a raw and honest speech on being lobbied hard to vote for it by unions and NGOs.

House enacts 75-73 (final vote) Rep Dhalac's LD 1971 bill to severely restrict law enforcement for immigration purposes making Maine a sanctuary state. The bill now heads to the Senate for a final vote before going to Governor Mills (D) desk.

The Special Emergency Session will not be over tonight. The Senate just adjourned, and the House will shortly once they are done bickering. Rumors of a return on Wednesday for a Veto Day or earlier if the Speaker and Senate President call legislators back before then.
