Demitrius Nelon Jan De Dobbeleer (inactive) Me on stage: WinGet install oh-my-posh should just say it’s already installed, we’ve worked with Jan a ton and he’s awesome *WinGet starts pulling an update* Me: Apparently Jan shipped an update within the last half hour 😂

I’ve been exploring Wix to create an MSI for oh-my-posh and while the basics seem to work, aligning it with the current Inno installer is rather challenging. It really requires an understanding of MSI, which is an entire subject on its own.

Oh my! I nailed the MSI when it comes to mimicking the Inno installer for oh-my-posh. All it needs is code signing and we’re good to go 🚀

Crazy. I made an MSI for Oh My Posh. Seems to work just like the Inno installer, but it’s a lot cleaner to maintain. Thanks to the community for helping me get it right, it was a bit of a struggle 😅

Apparently the MS Store doesn’t accept submissions with package URL’s that redirect. But only from the UI, I can successfully submit those using the API 🫣🤦🏻‍♂️

Moving Oh My Posh to the MSI suddenly surfaces scoop’s poor support for installers. Somehow they want to unpack the content and manage executables themselves which is a terrible idea IMHO. Therefore, scoop support is officially dropped. I don’t want to maintain two installers.

As the Windows Store requires a non-redirecting, versioned link to the installers, I will move those to Azure behind cdn.ohmyposh.dev. I’ll update all installers to use those links, the question I have is: do I move all artifacts from GitHub to that location?

What a whirlwind year! 🌪️ This summer, I raised funds for a Surface Laptop to enhance Windows support. In November, Oh My Posh won the Microsoft Store Award in Developer Tools, earning a souped-up Surface Pro! Thanks to everyone who nominated us! 😍
