Narrower lanes are coming to I-35 in Austin. TxDOT is shrinking the width of the highway lanes from 12-feet to 11-feet as part of the effort to pack in more traffic. kut.org/transportation…

if i were on austin city council i’d do a stunt where i printed out the new budget and jumped a scooter over it. just seems like something worth considering

mueller’s a funny place. very pleasant, but also roughly the same density of a chicago suburb, and austin considers this such a radical experiment in urban design that suggesting some of its features might work well in other neighborhoods was pretty controversial until like, 2020

any criticisms of mueller aside it truly is a great place to walk. haven’t been putting up numbers like these since before covid

nobody doing these critical theory word salads has an answer to the extremely basic question of why it’s illegal to build like a modest 10-unit apartment building on the majority of land in major cities. they’ll just deny that’s true because they saw a new apartment building once

downtown people think mueller’s too suburban whereas pflugerville types are terrified by residential density and paid parking but criticizing it for having too many asian people is new territory even for the bleak mental landscape of my most deranged reply guys

My latest: During the pandemic, the City of Austin bought several hotels with the intent of turning them into homes for those experiencing homelessness. Simple, right? The first of those hotels opened this month. It was anything but easy: kut.org/austin/2024-08…

This. Most apartment buildings are huge due in no small part to required double stairways, and the geometry of huge buildings pretty much requires mostly studios and 1BRs, whose residents like gyms etc. I’d *love* to build smaller, infill buildings w/ 3BRs and no amenities.
