I don’t think there’s any meaningful critique of Sabrina Carpenter because I really don’t think she’s doing anything that edgy. Just boilerplate campy raunch, if this is seriously offensive to you you might be a puritan.

What a lot of people need to reckon with is a lot of Americans genuinely feel this way. It’s absurd, but this is what a significant swath of ā€œChristiansā€ in this country are taught and need to be deprogrammed of.

What’s happening with MATERIALISTS isn’t unique, sadly. Several very good movies are continually kicked into the dirt by film twitter by exaggeration, misinformation, and sharing pirated clips out of context for easy dunks and it’s school bully behavior.

This kind of talk btw actively discourages people from watching movies. The incessant ā€œdiscussionā€ over a movie that just came out yesterday has truly dissuaded any interest I have it in

I think we’d all be happier if we talked about movies with our friends, or just regular people in general, rather than online. Online film discourse, as it is, is unsustainable.

Would also like to be clear that absolutely no one is required to like MATERIALISTS and it’s silly to suggest that someone is being in-genuine for saying so. This is more than anything just about the constant rage baiting that happens on here.

If you go to a protest and your first thought is to do a funny meme sign, you immediately show that you’re a tourist in other people’s misery and don’t actually care.

A strong choice. What makes HALLOWEEN and HALLOWEEN II (Director’s Cut specifically) work is saying ā€œwhat if Michael Myers was a seriously unwell child exploited by a psychiatrist?ā€ instead of being characterized as the personification of evil. He has actual pathos.

Only take I’ve got on BOYHOOD is that I didn’t care for when I saw it at 18, but when I think about it too hard as a 28 year old I start crying.

I have kind of a wild pick for who I think could be an interesting Patrick Bateman based on his work in an upcoming Apple TV+ show.

I love the combat system in DOOM: THE DARK AGES, but everything else is sorely disappointing. Flat music, *weak* story, a serious visual downgrade, and very little else but big open arenas... it really doesn't measure up to its distinguished predecessors.
