Parents/teachers, want children to read? Let them read what they want. Even comics! Comic books avg 53.5 rare words per thousand, compared with 30.9 rare words per thousand in children's books, and 52.7 in adult books. Learning to read should be enjoyable!

You can tell a lot about a school's culture by walking through a school. Observe the office staff, custodians & staff/faculty in the hall, their demeanor & interactions with other staff & students. You can't fake a dynamic school culture. It is palpable!

Schools biggest flaw is that we forget learning happens in Failure! Schools slap a grade on it, instead of help student get up, reflecting and trying again. Many students are too scared of failure even to try for success. #mschat #miched

I’ve never done a Hexagonal Thinking lesson before…. But I’m considering this as a day one activity in AP Lang: Have them write 6 word memoirs on a hexagon and then have them work together to discuss how to connect their hexagons together in meaningful ways… thoughts?

Once upon a classroom, I made them comply. And I was good at it. But. It never quite felt right. So, I learned (am still learning) to let them commit. And. It feels better. There, in the space between. Where kids have some room to grow. Mine. A room to grow.

A Supportive & Positive School Culture is the bedrock of effective education. It means teachers feel valued, respected, and heard. It's an environment where collaboration thrives, ideas flourish, and students excel.

Inside me are two wolves: one who wants to buy books purely for the dopamine rush, and one who wants to buy books to read, and unfortunately they're both authorized to use my credit card

Pssst. Take it all a little less seriously. It seems to make a difference. Of course, that includes taking yourself a little less seriously, too. πŸ™‚

It’s been implied (I want to believe), but for the first time in my 28 years, I heard the words today from an administrator. β€œI trust you.” I was surprised how much it mattered. Haven’t quit thinking about it. Wonder if this is how my kids feel when I say, β€œI trust you.”
