While everyone has been distracted by the happenings at the RCP, GMC has released its new 'vision' for medical education and training. And frankly, it deeply bothers me (my stomach lining can't take much more!). Here's why. 🧵 1/

It’s that time of the year again for prospective T&O ST3 Candidates. Job preferencing is approaching soon and can be a hard choice so we have decided to make it a little easier. Here’s a small thread about why you should choose Mersey for T&O registrar training! 🧵

Congrats to all new ST3s who received their jobs today! Looking forward to meeting those joining us for T&O in Mersey in Aug The 1958 Society! 🎉 If you didn't land a job then give yourself some time to process.. be kind to yourself. Good things will come, bigger and brighter 🙏🏽 🤙🏽

IMHO “we will pay you accurately and on time” is an absolute bare minimum to avoid being in breach of contract, not being touted as an “improvement” being made by a government desperate for Ws. This isn’t good enough.

Huge congratulations to Dr Watson! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 But allow me to use take this opportunity to highlight a rather useful, and often overlooked, clause in the consultant TCS.👇🏼 Essentially, if you train flexibly, for whatever reason, you start higher up the consultant pay spine. ✊🏼

Wes Streeting you’re at my hospital today but I’m scoping. What I would ask to save surgical training: 1: a tariff attached a case where a trainee operates 2: money from deanery to trust hypothecated 3: training fee and exam 1st sit paid for #NoTrainingTodayNoSurgeonsTomorrow

Spend three minutes watching this man talk in a humane, evidence-based way about penal policy. Then realise that he is now in charge of prisons. And then feel the waves of relief wash over you.

Paying a whole £4 extra a week they get: - Free prescriptions - Free University - Free dentistry (certain circumstances) - Free eye care (certain circumstances) - Nationalised rail - Free bus travel under 22 - A better welfare state overall Now that’s good value for money

Death by a thousand cuts: a tale of how I got some noticeboards installed in a trainee room. As wellbeing lead i thought it would be nice to hang some notice boards in our trainee room, for regular updates on wellbeing issues. Seems simple no? Not for NHS front line staff. 1/

£3.5m to advise an NHS Trust to cut doctors’ pay for extra hours?! Ironically, that’s equivalent to more than 21,000 hours of EXTRA consultant activity?! How many of their 160k waiting patients wouldn’t still be waiting if they’d spent our money actually clearing the backlog?🤔

I remember taking a referral from an ED SHO once and looked down to see he was wearing my missing crocs that I’d spent all morning looking for

A few weeks ago my wife went to the hospital for stomach pain. They did a CT Scan of her abdomen and thankfully didn't find anything serious. Today we got the bill in the mail: $9,117.42 Healthcare is broken.
