1 reason I didn't apply for jobs in America is because I didn't want to have to fly the whole fucking time. I'm currently 15months flight free, having taken trains & boats from Scotland to conferences in Netherlands, Sweden, Czech Republic & a wedding in Hungary. Next up: Lisbon!

Nice little paper from Deonna & Teroni -Uses some nice observations about "emotional sensitivities" to defend their view that nonevaluative evidence can justify emos -Argues that emos give us epistemic goodies due to modulatng attention & are needed for graspng some eval concepts

If anyone is confused about how the fact v. opinion distinction is being widely used in a way that constitutes misinformation, I highly recommend they read the evidence submitted to the UK parliament by A X Douglas and the late Katherine Hawley. data.parliament.uk/WrittenEvidencโ€ฆ

How to promote "impactful" humanities research: UKโ€”Create a massive beaurocratic exercise that pisses everyone off and promotes a reductive, gamified notion of impact. NLโ€”Ask researchers for advice on issues where human values are pertinent. Create extra grants for such work.

I've heard anecdotally that some professors are using LLMs to mark essays. Professors doing this have heard of "jailbreaking", right? See if you can spot the simple grade-maximizing technique I found that works on GPT3.5... ๐Ÿคก๐Ÿคก๐Ÿคก๐Ÿคก

Killing birds through horrific factory farm conditions has a downside: you have to walk to pick them up and put them in the bin. No worries, we've got a solution. Use the Chicken Reaper. It's user friendly! Less walking! Convenient! Call us today, then put your feet up!

Me: Here's how to use reasoning to think a bit more carefully about the ethics of technologies. Engineering students: Can we make this idea of "logically following" more precise? And don't we need more ethical premises to support our ethical premises and so on โˆž?๐Ÿคฏ Me: TU Delft

Editing tip: Keep an eye for any paragraphs in your manuscript that deal with things whereof one cannot speak. Passing over them in silence is a great way to keep that word count down! โœ…

I'm going to carry on taking Huberman seriously (read: eating my blueberries) โˆต -He quickly, humbly admitted his error. -It's pretty easy to fall into probabilistic fallacies, especially when you're talking without a script & trying to make things sound simple. Who hasn't?

Big up Alice Munro. I read this collection about 10 years ago & I now literally get goosebumps reading the wikipedia synopses, they're that vividly lodged in my memory. I've never read short stories as breathtaking as hers.
