How rich is the writing / compare to most books for ks1 published now… the reading shapes the writing and how we think. Children need great literature.

People sometimes oppose these things out of a genuine anxiety to protect children But we protect children best by providing information, not withholding it - in ways they can understand and process of course

Short naps improved learning for secondary school students! I wonder why - are we effectively dealing with a sleep deprived population, and how many issues in school (behaviour, motivation) could be partly explained by that? nature.com/articles/s4153…

Yes, so much more than vocab Just as with vocabulary, learning in the context of rich and interesting conversations is the best foundation for children to acquire language structures (and the conceptual metaphors that they glue to) - rather than disembodied lists and rules

A useful list of observations Worth considering that "not listening" might be more "not taking in" or not sticking to information due to working memory limits or loads Paradoxically, "trying hard to listen" itself can use up capacity, so WM adaptations (ok, cog load) might help

Our youngest children continue to be a joy & a delight and are utterly wonderful to be around but we need to think carefully about how we provide EYFS and KS1 experiences that recognise they are a group with early childhood experiences like no others before or in the future.

Helpful thread on why "doing what we've always done isn't going to work" We need to think even beyond early stages to the whole educational careers of these cohorts. There needs to be long term thinking and adaptation Let's not wait 20 years to find out what we should have done

Almost finished first draft of book on #trauma-informed practice in #earlyyears education A nagging suspicion I have left out something important! Here's the contents page - anything missing?

So much great advice in this article, incl: "Don’t be scared of someone’s grief. Face it and walk into it, because you being there dilutes those emotions a little bit Don’t tell us what our loved one would be thinking Check on us at weekends ... sunny days" And much more
