Very grateful to the @NLawCRDJ for inviting me to participate in this conversation. Institutionalization is incarceration, and reinstitutionalization is nothing more than warmed over policy that deceptively frames incarceration as a solution to social harm. We deserve better.

At least 10% of women suffer from endometriosis & endure severe pain every month. I’m one of them & just recovered from surgery. Patriarchy tells us: Get used to periods being painful & keep quiet. Most of us aren’t diagnosed for about a decade. Sharing to fight the silence.

I have some thoughts on this. 1. Accommodations is not binary. There are degrees of accommodations. 2. Some Bars are notorious for NOT granting accommodations. That makes me wonder if they are also granting insufficient accommodations, which might explain this. 🧵

The accommodation mandate is a crucial aspect of disability law. This perspective reflects a significant misunderstanding of both civil rights and the lived experience of people with disabilities. It is disheartening, depressing, and harmful.
