“You need to practice retrieving from memory.” “Timed” has a negative connotation. Giving students a time is giving them tangible meaning to fact mastery. Following strategy instruction, timed fact practice could be the bridge to problem solving.

Reflection: PLCs work well when teachers lead them. With this, there needs to be admin support in place for these teachers to be trained, and set norms and agendas collaboratively. Should PLCs have a focus on tier 1? edutopia

Cold-calling promotes equity when our intention is to not “catch” students. We want to hear all students’ ideas & gather feedback. Extend that wait time, have students share with a peer prior, and have others summarize those who do share! Celebrate ALL answers, right or wrong👍🏻

With evidence-based strategies/ structures has to come fluidity, creativity&differentiation. Teachers can begin the gradual release model at various points, make it last multiple lessons, and have different students at the different stages of I do, we do, you do at the same time.
