Air con is literally climate change adaptation and well as a provider of a higher standard of living so it’d be crazy for any green-minded body to block it

Coal-fired electricity production fell by over a third in Trump’s first presidency. The US really could be about to put itself into self-inflicted relative electricity poverty by being so restrictive on tech with no clear supply chain diversification strategy.

Energy demand from developing countries will rise but an awful lot of it will be from importing cheap, decentralised energy sources that don’t require fuel (and therefore constant transport/labour)

If the U.S. built as much solar as China did in May, it would free up enough thermal capacity to power every data center on the planet.

Zonal pricing is a matter of time in the UK, not a question of whether or not it'll happen. We'll follow everyone else as the inefficiency reaches absurd levels. The choice whether we waste time and put up energy bills more, or follow NESO's advice and get on with it.

This stuff is usually shared in a “yay climate!” way but actually it needs to be seen through a “we are about to get totally done on every important economic and technological metric in the 21st century” way

It’s been less than a year since I joined and I 100% feel the same! And Robin is an absolute don that makes my job 100x easier (and a lot more fun too) 👇

Octopus doesn’t want to be paid to turn solar off, that’s why we’re campaigning for change. Let’s have a system that lets people use dirt cheap power for their homes, AC, and cars instead 🐙☀️⚡️ telegraph.co.uk/business/2025/…

Britain pays wind farms to turn off when it’s windy and overpays gas plants to switch on instead. It'll cost bill payers up to £8b/yr by 2030. Zonal energy pricing would slash this. We’ve started tracking this (avoidable) waste live on our site: octopus.energy

FREE THE WIND 💨⚡️ The financial benefits of renewables are being kept from households and businesses. Rather than switch wind farms off, we should let them cut prices instead. That’s the whole point of building them.

The government is looking at paying battery companies to locate in Scotland and paying them to charge up at certain times… …rather than just cutting Scottish energy bills and having this happen more efficiently with zonal This is gonna go so badly 🤦‍♂️

If reports are true this will lock *everyone* - not just Scotland - into higher bills for years as we will spend billions switching off wind farms when it’s windy (rather than allowing them to sell power dirt cheap locally). A mistake. theguardian.com/business/2025/…

Our energy market is broken. We are paying huge sums to wind farms to turn off when it’s too windy. The way to fix it has just been ruled out by DESNZ after intense lobbying. But don’t worry “all the brain power” in the civil service is on the job.
