I think lots of people are trying to replace SLAM with e2e approaches… we are a long way off for things like navigation. I don’t see this being industrially ready for a long time.

Syncronised welding robots ✨ Modern welding robots can achieve ±0.04mm repeatability, maintaining a consistent arcs that even master welders can't match over 8-hour shifts. That said, there are always tasks a robot can't do and a master welder is required.

TLDR: - standard two-system control architecture but with better data - “toward one model multi robot” but unclear what that actually means yet - they say more is coming this month - weirdly large amount of content devoted to where they recruited from/what people did before Skild

🤖 Ever notice how similar Autostore and Ocado robots look? There's a story to be told here... AutoStore (Norwegian warehouse robotics pioneer) sued Ocado (UK grocery tech) in 2020 for stealing their robot designs. Seemed straightforward - Ocado was an AutoStore customer who

When designing humanoid legs, it is more than just about walking If it were, one could get by with fewer DoF and ROM But one must consider squatting and other applications This impacts both hip and waist design Clearly, Figure did their "homework"

A deeply "uncanny valley" robot tries to imitate a human voice. Sometimes we need to stop and ask ourselves: "Not whether we can but whether we should" Only joking - kudos to any ambitious robotics project regardless of how many nightmares it creates 😳

Cams ARE the original "programmable" automation - these mechanical marvels orchestrate complex sequences without a single line of code. By carefully profiling cam shapes, engineers encode timing, positioning, and sequencing directly into metal. What makes cams brilliant for

The unofficial humanoid ranking: 1. Figure 2. Tesla 3. Apptronik / Agility (dark horses) Lots of room for argument here & lots of companies missing. What’s everyone’s top 3 / top 5 ranking

Apples to Oranges The top is autonomous, the bottom teleoped Neither shows unlatching of door which requires grip force, though one tries to imply it via editing One is given clothes off screen, the other grabs them autonomously on screen One maintains a deep crouch

I still don't believe that Spatial AI is a big data problem. Massive data won't unlock robotics. Representation is still the hard bit. We need efficient, composable representation of 3D physical scenes to enable mental simulation like humans use to plan creative uses of objects.
