Meteorologists here at the SPC are busy monitoring the tornado threat across the FL Peninsula ahead of Hurricane #Milton. Here's a sneak peak behind the scenes as we prepare a mesoscale discussion for parts of FL.

I'm sorry but a Hurricane in October is normal climate. So are tornadoes when they come on land. This isn't a result of climate change, especially when half the circus posting about that have no data to support the claim. This includes some large media outlets

The 2024 Atlantic #hurricane season is now above-average for all parameters that CSU forecasts. The season has been most above average for stronger storm activity (e.g., hurricanes and major hurricanes than for named storms).

Dry air infiltrating the back side of Milton is leading to something called a “sting jet.” Coastal gusts 100-115 mph. Inland 85-100 mph. Winds could affect part of I-4 corridor. Matthew Cappucci has update.

Reminder weather balloon data gets directly fed into computer models. Less balloons = less data = less forecast model accuracy. And, of course, fewer NWS meteorologists = fewer eyes on the weather. A sad day for American and global meteorology.
