Alberto Caiero was one of Fernando Pessoa's heteronymns. This poem reminds me so much of Virgil's Ecologues, though this is perhaps an effect of my own marbled memory. alteritas.net/GXL/?p=1676

Edge Hold still, I know it hurts much more than I can judge. You live on the very edge, your guts exert gravity you begrudge. Hold still, I know it hurts when once again he skirts the pith with verbiage.... bsky.app/profile/xerxes… #poetrycommunity

Edge

Hold still, I know it hurts
much more than I can judge.
You live on the very edge,
your guts exert
gravity you begrudge.

Hold still, I know it hurts
when once again he skirts
the pith with verbiage....

To celebrate the arrival of Spring. With thanks to François Villon. I wrote this 40 years ago. The names were changed to protect the innocent. instagram.com/p/DHZfDQXSgLn/… #poetry #poetrycommunity #Spring

A flower in flight. A fragment in honour of my friend Alfredo, who once treated me to a litany of Latin names for the panoply of flora in my Berkeley backyard. #poetry #poetrycommunity instagram.com/p/DHuENPiyuFT/…

I used a like set of similar rhymes in the opening of Skinny Dippin' with Alligators: alteritas.net/entwistedtongu… ... The pit-stops in between Also leave much to be desired. You’ve seen Them, the most you can say is you’ve been There. Not remotely a sightseeing spin ...

No to brag ( well maybe a little) but I wrote my 1971 MA thesis in CompLit at U Alberta on him: "Tradition and Change in Two African Poets: Tchicaya U Tam'si and Christopher Okigbo". Tchicaya was pretty amazing too!

Jeez, I thought Easter was over. Yet here I am posting the first page of Christopher Okigbo's Heavensgate, which he "originally conceivwd of as an Easter procession. It later grew into a ceremony of innocense, something like a mass." He died in 1967 in the Nigerian Civil War

Trigger warning ! Though a parody of gushy triolets, this translated poem by Rimbaud is about a real (or at least vicerally imagined) homosexual gang rape. I explain at: alteritas.net/GXL/?p=4412 #poetrycommunty #rimbaud

Fully aware that Boris Pasternak, the author of Doctor Zhivago, was his equal in writing and, he feared, in love, Rilke penned this entreaty to Marina Tsvetaeva: We touch from afar. But how? With airborne brushes our beating wings bestir each other. alteritas.net/pastis/we-touc…

In the eyes of a dumb beast I glimpsed deep peace, nature’s impartial feast offered without surcease. To fear all creatures respond. Yet animals know how on the hunt to browse on the here-and-now which tastes of nothing beyond. Rilke again. alteritas.net/pastis/4174-2/

offered without surcease.

on the hunt to browse
on the here-and-now
which tastes of nothing beyond.

In the summer of 85 I loaded my VW squareback with all my possessions and drove up the 5 all the way to Vancouver and then across the Rockies to Edmonton. It was a risky return to academia but the clear result of a midlife crisis See instagram.com/p/C4O6qy6P-3r/…
