Two good motions passed tonight by Bristol Council. My ward colleague cllr Nicholas Coombes proposed a Liberal Democrat motion on river water quality, we will work with others to provide more rainwater butts to reduce overflows into the Trym and other city rivers.

One of our campaign pledges in Westbury and Henleaze was to deliver the long needed zebra crossing on Canford Lane. Delighted to say that the contractor will be on site next week, so residents will soon be able to cross this busy road more safely.

Bristol Waste company have notified councillors of further delays to recycling collections, beyond the normal seasonal disruption. Most of Henleaze and neighbouring areas that normally have a Friday (would have been Sat this week) collection are affected - bristolwastecompany.co.uk/service-change…

Delighted to be joined by local residents and campaigners to mark the opening (at last) of the new crossing on Canford Lane. This will be a major help for people to cross safely a very busy road on their way to Westbury village shops and cafes.

Good crowd of Bristol Lib Dems🔶🇺🇦 volunteers out in Westbury and Henleaze today helping me, Caroline and Nicholas deliver our latest Focus newsletter, which also introduces Oli Henman our candidate for West of England Mayor. The Lib Dems have the most councillors across the area.

Before and after, delighted to see the zebra crossings in Westbury village centre are being repainted after we requested maintenance as they had faded so badly.

Westbury on Trym and Henleaze cllrs Stephen Williams and Caroline Gooch have been meeting businesses and shoppers at Carlton Court, where the owner has fenced off a large section of the car park, impacting trade. The council is investigating the owner’s intentions.

The last big Tory meltdown in the shire counties was in 1993, when the only county they held was Buckinghamshire. In 2025 they’ve lost Bucks 😀 Their councillors are being gobbled up by both Liberal Democrats and Reform and their MPs are at the lowest point ever. Goodbye Tories.

Good day meeting people at the Westbury on Trym Village Fair and then to Bristol Libraries Central library for displays on the local history collections for Sea Mills, Southmead, Bedminster and Barton Hill.

Ended busy week with giving thanks for the armed services and civilians who won freedom for much of Europe eighty years ago #VEDay80 Thanks to Bristol Cathedral for the event…and it’s been a while since I sang I Vow to Thee My Country, set to Holst’s Jupiter.

We look forward to meeting residents this evening at the quarterly Westbury on Trym Forum, at the library from 7.30. Our councillors will be there to give feedback on their work and answer questions.

By trying to bully nations out of recognising Palestine, Trump is making himself the biggest hurdle to a two-state solution and a lasting peace. The UK must stand strong with Canada and our allies, we should recognise the Palestinian state right now. No more delays.
