Workhouse Masters and Matrons played a key role in poor law administration for almost a century. Researched & written by Y Dolydd - Llanfyllin’s Workhouse volunteers, ‘Masters and Matrons of the Llanfyllin Union Workhouse, 1839-1982’ is out now🎉 Part-funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The Poor Law Unions were established to assist those in need, the minute book entry from South Dublin Union in 1919 shows how the Board approved funds for a pair of glasses for a widow's daughter and boots for an old man, daily essentials they could not afford #WorkhouseWednesday
