I appreciate people who are willing to change their mind. It reflects intellectual humility, courage, and honesty. It reflects a willingness to consider new evidence, new ideas, and new ways of thinking. We need more of that.

As schools plan for fall, you don’t need canned curriculum, new programs, or initiatives to be more effective. You do need teachers to feel respected, valued, supported & appreciated, as well as feel like their talents/strengths are being utilized. Morale & achievement will soar!

You will never know how a vehicle performs with it remaining in park. You will never be successful staying still and not trying. Step out, try, learn from your mistakes, and grow from them. Each successful business started small at first.

Effective teachers don't focus so much on rules, but on routines, procedures and expectations. If you focus on rules, you will spend most of the year enforcing them. But if you focus on routines, procedures, and expectations, you rarely have to defer back to the rules.

5 tips for building class climate: 1) Talk to kids when they walk into class. 2) Learn 1 thing about each student. 3) Praise the class publicly and criticize students privately. 4) Apologize when needed. 5) Don’t take yourself too seriously.

We have a teacher shortage because we have an attrition crisis. Teachers are leaving in droves because they don’t feel supported, valued, & they are simply burnt out. We have to do a better job of taking care of our teachers. Our students are depending on it!
