In Al-Hol camp and other camps and places of detention in northeast #Syria, tens of thousands of children spend their childhood in appalling conditions no child should ever experience. They deserve a future 👇

Violations of International Humanitarian Law exist – there is undoubtedly terror, pain and heartbreak in conflict. There is, however, resilience, rebuilding and restoration as well. The people impacted by conflict, as with conflicts themselves, are multifaceted.

(1/3) Law enforcement officials have an important role in situations of violence because of their responsibilities in the maintenance of public order and security, prevention and detection of crime and provision of help and assistance.

(2/3) They can significantly influence the fate of those affected; and how they do so will depend, to a great degree, on the way they exercise the powers they have been granted: arrest and detention, search and seizure and the use of force and firearms.

(3/3) ICRC is happy to reengage physically with Fiji Police Force and enhance the knowledge, understanding and acceptance, both, of its mandate and work, and of the human rights law applicable to law enforcement.

What an enriching two days filled with mass information sharing and great dialogue. Always a pleasure for the ICRC to work hand in hand with authorities to provide vital workshops that will assist officers on a daily basis to perform their duties with due diligence.
