Today, I joined millions of #Taiwan people in exercising the right of a citizen in a democracy. I thank those who are working so hard to ensure our elections will be smooth and successful.

#Taiwan completed its first referendums Saturday - a giant step - first time in Taiwan history when citizens expressed their opinion directly. Congratulations to the people of Taiwan. There are of course challenges, but if we stay the course of democracy, we shall overcome.

#Taiwan: a referendum is a powerful but dangerous democracy tool. It is often written with convoluted languages, partial facts, wrong headline, and false promises. The principle of referendums is that if you call one, you had better be certain you are going to win.
