Went pretty deep in this one. Explained how I went from being the worst high school baseball coach in the state of NM to getting a job in pro ball & college. Thanks to @RBIBaseball_LLC for having me on. Learn how to leverage failure for progress.

🧵In the words of the wise Conner Watson, "Start with the end and work back from there." If you can hit .400 standing on your head, then you better stand on your head. An athlete can have "perfect swing mechanics," but does he hit good?

Sometimes, coaches (including myself) will look at a hitter, see a movement they don't like (squishing the bug, rear knee drifting forward, etc.), and rush in to save the day without ever stopping to ask do I need to fix this or do I just want to fix this?

As a baseball community, we have a pretty good idea of what a productive batted ball looks like. If an athlete has the ability to hit balls 98+ between 26°-30° consistently, then his a good hitter, regardless of what his swing looks like.

Start with what the ball flight looks like because that's what matters. Where do their hard-hit balls go? What does their miss look like? Then work backward from there. This method of diagnostics keeps coaches and athletes focused on the ultimate goal - WINNING BASEBALL GAMES.
