New research just dropped from UNC Dept of Earth, Marine & Environmental Sciences 🙌

Great presentation by Thomas Thelen today at #AGU22 showing how our Sunny Day Flooding Project sensors are collecting data that help to evaluate flood models 🌊

Had a lot of fun with a super team of collaborators on this one (@fldhzd is the only one on here i think)! And thanks to Adam Wagner for this great write-up. newsobserver.com/news/state/nor…

unc.edu/posts/2023/02/… In the news: check out new research on building in the floodplains by our very own Dr. Miyuki Hino @fldhzd

The next #CarolinaDataScienceNow seminar on February 23, “Imagining Better Communities," will feature talks on how #datascience is used to conserve #naturalsystems & ensure #sustainable #urbandevelopment. All UNC-Chapel Hill community members are welcome to register. datasciencenow.unc.edu/event/february…

Attn enviro journalists! Wake Forest University is hosting an environmental justice fellowship for 5 days this summer. Attendees will receive training in covering EJ issues, travel costs, and a $2,500 reporting stipend. Deadline 3/20: ow.ly/MXns50MYx6i Corey D. B. Walker Melba Newsome

New pub from the Sunny Day Flooding Project team! Our new sensors detected water on the road 24x in 5 months in coastal NC - flooding is happening more often than common proxies (e.g., NOAA HTF counts) suggest b/c we capture the impacts of rain (1/4 of our events were rain + tide).
