Check out Dr. Katie Szilagyi recently published chapter, “Buying & Selling the Metaverse: Science fiction speculation, modern technologies and digital data economies”, in the edited collection “Science Fiction as Legal Imaginary”.

Her chapter, co-authored by Dr. Christina Fawcett, conceptualizes the impacts of data-driven approaches on law with the warnings about Metaverse that permits a new perspective on the potential policy-making and regulatory challenges imposed by Metaverse-styled environments.

Today, we are excited to highlight some of the recent works of our esteemed faculty member, Dr. Katie Szilagyi (Katie Szilagyi). Her most recent works delve into the fascinating interaction of AI and the law.

On February 19, 2025, she made her presentation “The Rise of AI in Law: Administrative Considerations” before the judges of the Manitoba Court of King’s Bench as part of their Law at Lunch series.

On January 22, 2025, Dr. Szilagyi participated as one of four UM experts in a riveting panel discussion (through the UM Knowledge Exchange) on the topic of “The Rise of Automation.”

She has recently published “Regenerating Justice: ChatGPT and the Legal Minefield of Generative AI” in the Canadian Journal of Law & Technology (2025), 22 Can JL & Tech 109.
