Hats off to the PM at Zoom who decided that -- when I am late for a call with others waiting -- the most important action I want to take at that moment is installing an update. One with with no stated benefit.

💯 I’ve found that flexible blank canvases such as Google Docs or Figma can solve most needs while retaining flexibility for your specific situation. Less worry about if you are using them right versus what are you trying to do.

Surprised Chicago isn't in US top 10. • Cost of living helps, but devs often compare comp > cost • Few FAANG-like roles here with upper limit to advancement • Skew towards ops-heavy vs. tech-heavy startups We supply great talent e.g. UIUC. More work to do to retain it...

Mixed stats for Chicago, third largest MSA/3% of U.S. by population: • #9/2% of total in capital invested • Not in top 10/<=1% for AI rounds • Leapfrogged by Pittsburgh, Houston, Miami for AI Boston, San Diego are bigger % than I expected; Seattle, Miami (given hype) smaller

I had completely forgotten about this post from when 1871 opened up. Almost 12 years later, how are we doing in Chicago? A New Home for the Startup Community blog.1871.com/blogs/a-new-ho…

Have you heard of Conway's Law? It's an interesting observation about the root cause of why large organizations usually make products worse. In 1967 Melvin Conway wrote "Organizations which design systems are constrained to produce designs which are copies of the communication

My X account was taken over 2/12/25 and I only recovered it on 3/1/25. Apologies for any inappropriate content sent during that time. If you started following me for reasons besides Technology Product or Arsenal, you are in the wrong place... a lot of new followers I removed.

In October, I moderated a discussion on how people are using AI. Last night, I attended a similar meetup. Then: most were doing content editing & personal queries e.g. vacation ideas. Now: many are coding their own apps, even non-technical people. It's changing fast. Hang on!
