I can't help but notice that I am seeing a lot more dragon sighting videos since the advent of generative AI. Could it be that AI's adverse effects on the environment are leading to a change in their behavior, e.g. lack of water sources that causes them to move closer to cities?

It's kind of overwhelming how many academic conversations about automation don't ever include the effects on the consumer. It's like all jobs exist purely for the benefit of the people doing them and that's the sole measure of the benefit or harm of technology.

Meat without suffering, at scale, would be an amazing development — and would be universally recognized as such once everyone got past the irrational “this isn’t natural” response (as if naturalness in that particular sense were morally relevant).
