Mum & Dad (M)- This film serves as a collage of depraved acts and fucked up brutality. It’s little more than torture porn and offers little in the way of any sort of message. You clearly never know what goes on behind closed doors.

Megan Is Missing- This was a tough watch. It’s a fucking heartbreaking look at real life dangers online, as a young, impressionable child. This could well happen in reality and probably has, and THAT is the real horror story.

Near Dark (N)- A vampire flick that in all honesty, didn’t really add anything new to the existing narrative. A man gets turned, hangs out with a gang of vampires, gets cured, rescues his sister from said group. Where’s the fresh perspective? A dull watch in my opinion.

Oculus (O)- This supernatural horror by Mike Flanagan was a twisty, turn-y journey of nightmares! You constantly have yourself questioning what’s real and what isn’t and there’s some very effective and visceral scenes that I remember from when I first watched it!

Prevenge (P)- Written by, directed by and starring Alice Lowe, this black comedy is simply fantastic. Such a unique idea which was very well executed and thoroughly enjoyable. Certainly tugs at the heartstrings at its core also.

Q:The Winged Serpent (Q)- The idea of this film was cool. I love Aztec mythology, and to have a Quetzalcoatl as the main ‘big bad’ of the film was fantastic. It’s a film of its time which showed in the special effects but I would not be mad about seeing a remake of this idea!

Quarantine- Ah, the American remake.. They just love to suck the life out of the originals they copy and rarely add anything new. This film is another example of that. If you want to watch a better movie, just watch REC.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (R)- This film remains to this day, a cult classic even after 60 years! Songs that have become so ingrained in culture that you can’t help but sing or dance along to. The film is batshit and that’s the appeal! It’s a bit of silly for a fun evening!

Repo: A Genetic Opera- I applaud the makers of this film for taking a risk and doing something different! As it turns out, this film was an adaptation of an already existing stage play. Overall it was performed well but some of the songs come across a little amateurish in places

Slaxx (S)- This film is a wild ride! What’s not to love about a killer pair of jeans?! Although this film does have a message at its heart about the true value of ethically sourced materials in the clothing industry and the morality surrounding it. It’s well worth a view!

Session 9- This has the makings of something truly interesting, but for me, I feel it misses the mark. The latter half of the film where things are unfolding left me more confused than when I knew virtually nothing. If I have to google a plot synopsis, either I’m dumb or it’s bad

Threads (T)- This is a harrowing watch and a stark reminder of the power and responsibility we as a civilisation have when it comes to nuclear weaponry. It’s a sad tale and to think that it could actually happen makes it all the more terrifying.

Triggered- This is a fun watch and a film that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Having first watched this at Frightfest, I remembered the fun I had watching this. Sure, it probably has too many quips and some unlikeable characters but it adds to the overall charm.

Unfriended Dark Web (U)- This film is best enjoyed when you disconnect your brain and try not to look too hard into the substance of it. A lot of the practicalities of the computer stuff didn’t make sense but the film itself was fun to watch!

The Vourdalak (V)- A slow burn for sure, this French tale was an intriguing one! It takes a while before the interesting bits happen and it has some nice twists in the final act but I struggled in places to keep my attention.

When Evil Lurks (W)- This film was a ride! Absolutely brutal as all hell, and that ending! This is how you do a film about demons and keep it absolutely fresh and do something that massively pays off.

X Cross (X) - This Japanese film was pretty mad to say the least! A rather simple plot that got revealed more as time went by and we’d go back to learn more from different perspectives. I enjoyed it! It was totally bizarre!

Yellowbrickroad (Y)- Well, this film is a film that exists. The budget clearly wasn’t great and it’s not that the effects were terrible but just strangely chosen and took me right out of the film. Definitely one to avoid, this film was pretty dire.

Z (Z)- The final film in our marathon! This one was somewhat interesting, if not already kind of touched on in other films I’ve seen before with the whole imaginary friend schtick. This film was fine, if a little laboured in the second half. But enjoyable nonetheless.
