Finally an answer to some of your burning aperiodic questions: Why do some papers show opposing results when fitting the spectral slope? What is the best frequency range to fit in sleep? Is aperiodic brain activity characterized by more than one knee and slope? This and more here:

My dept. is hiring yet another asst prof! Research should focus on the molecular neurobio of AD; preference for work incorporating both human and animal tissue. Come be my colleague in a our well-supported, super-collegial department in one of the best places to live on earth!

🚨 Preprint alert 🚨 excited to finally share the work Matan has been working on for the past year, on the effects of #empathy perceived to be from a human source versus from #AI. Looking forward to hearing any thoughts or suggestions!

Check out Yihe Lu's new preprint on modelling the impact of replay (spontaneous and TMR cued) -- lots of cool insights into what this does to a memory over multiple nights. biorxiv.org/content/10.110… Yihe

We're hiring! We're hoping to attract a talented engineer for a PhD on sleep engineering (and detecting replay in sleep). krb-sjobs.brassring.com/TGnewUI/Search…

I'm extremely excited to launch the relational cognition lab at UC Irvine: relcoglab.org We study learning and memory in mind, brains and machines. I am open to collaborations and hiring a lab technician in January 2025 (job ad soon). Reach out to chat!

🌟 Cai Lab nature paper alert! In new work led by Joe Zaki, we find that rest periods after learning not only stabilize new memories BUT ALSO integrate new memories with older ones from days past! (1/9) Read it here: nature.com/articles/s4158…

Now more than ever - we want to hear from our LGBTQIA+ colleagues worldwide and learn about their needs. If you are #LGBTQIA + in #neuroscience , please share your input. If you're not, please share this post.

Did not anticipate such a large post-election bsky bump 🦋📈. Reaching the point where it feels like a necessity (e.g. if I want to be privy to scientific discourse in my field) to be on both.

For those of you not on bsky - it's experiencing a resurgence. In fact, in the last days, I've been getting far more science traction & learning more there than here. It's not too late to join, & there are Starter packs & apps that allow for a smooth transition. Time to move on!

I'm looking for a paper I read in the past couple of years, that showed that there were *fewer* sleep spindles during an NREM period w/ targeted memory reactivation relative to a matched NREM period wo/ TMR. Does anyone know which paper I'm talking about? Or did I confabulate?

Like everyone, I'm moving to BSky and hopefully you will too. Not deactivating X yet though. Because FOMO is everything, I'll post the text "I have just posted on BSky" here every time I do that. I now have more followers there than here, and it's as lively as it gets. Join us!
