As well as leading some excellent work with charities, @timbidey is also very charitable himself - yesterday he literally gave me the shirt off his back when mine got soaked through in the downpour. Thanks Tim. It’s mine now.

Every community should have beautiful things it can take pride in. There aren’t many in our corner of N22, so things like this sign matter. It tells people we have an ambition for this place; that someone cares about it; and that good things are coming. #Haringey #community

Our politics & our press over-simplifies big issues & highlights intractable division. Yet whenever I’m involved in a deliberative process with citizens I’m reminded how good people are at listening, understanding, sharing views & even shifting them in response to others.

Inflation is rapidly eating away at the levelling up money announced months ago. The longer it takes for that money to land with #localgov, the more their planned projects are going to have to shrink. Frustrating when high streets are facing (more) tough times.

So the first sitting PM found guilty of a criminal offence, whose lack of integrity led a record number of his own ministers to resign, & whose willingness to break international law (his OWN Brexit deal) diminished Britain’s standing abroad: the MP for #TheWrekin wants HIM back?

A civil servant texts: "I’ve had meetings with ministers cancelled because they are too focused on their infighting and leadership campaigns. This madness means that absolutely nothing can be done, and even if they get a new leader, we’ll get new ministers and every time...

A redundant bowling green? No, a community meadow - we got a sign to prove it! And today at Chapmans Green we added an orchard of 13 fruit trees in memory of our friend Carrie & for the Commonwealth Canopy. Helpers aged 3 to 87. We’re growing food, habitat & community in #N22 🍏🍎🍐🌳

I joined this place aged 24 & never quite found the right moment to leave: I was always learning so much, with such brilliant people on such diverse, interesting work. It has given me my best friends, flatmates, ideas & energy … & for that I will always be hugely grateful.

Want to get #Census2021 data for any area in England and Wales? Wards, parishes, parliamentary constituencies, or perhaps a 1km radius around a local park, school or train station? "Build a custom area profile" is here to help! ons.gov.uk/visualisations… 1/3

Great thread on house-building targets. We a) keep failing to hit annual govt target by 100,000+; b) the target itself is arguably too low to meet natural growth in households & c) the target would in fact need to DOUBLE to give us same no. of homes per cap as comparator nations.

Many GoodGym Haringey hands made light work of this last night… what a team! For years we’ve been looking at this patch of grass thinking we should recreate the flower bed it used to be, now we have.

Councils not yet flashing red need to lean into the challenge now. This month I worked with one LA to host a Budget Fortnight: 150 managers in a room to find big savings (& consider impacts) together. Share the challenge, generate new ideas, convert into concrete business cases.

Lots to think about this morning - a new government with a huge majority but not a huge share of the vote; with a pile of challenges waiting but often a lack of consensus (let alone money) to tackle them. This must be the era of #delib #engagement… public-sphere.co.uk/2024/07/05/thi…

Often in #climate #engagement folks say they’d use trains if the cost & experience made them more appealing. I’ve taken 2 Trafnidiaeth Cymru / Transport for Wales trips in 2 days: packed seaside services yet just 2 carriages, no AC, very few opening windows & unbearably hot. The UK HAS to sort this out.
