Ever wondered why our main workshop doors at Kirkaldy’s Testing Works are aligned between Southwark St & Price’s St, London SE1? This was to alllow ‘bending’ tests of incredibly long items. Stories are told nightwatchmen were employed at such times to protect passer-by’s !

We are the world’s oldest independent material testing works located in London SE1. We operate a working museum for the general public and educational facilities and are always looking for volunteers.

Price's Street entrance shows the industrial side of the Testing Works on 99 Southwark Street with its cast iron wall crane jib & loading bays. The crane allowed access to the upper, ground & basement workshops along with the museum of fractures.
