This is kind of a stupid reveal. Sure the reader knows Clint Barton but in universe there's no reason to be surprised that this previously unknown masked gladiator is basically "just some guy" Clint's refusal of the Hawkeye mantle should have ended his story there.

"Big Regular" is a biiiiiig stretch. He was in a handful of anime dubs, and usually in a very minor role. The only reason he stands out is because of hindsight. If he didn't have a career outside of dubbing then I doubt anyone who remember his name.
