Doing some testing of SS1 reading PS1 data directly from a disk without dumping the data first. It’s much better than I expected. That being said, copying games to the SD or SSD is still the optimal strategy for performance. It’s a one-time process and better for random access.

I had some downtime after work today, so I added preliminary support for loading Sega CD games from disk without dumping on SuperStation. It works very well! I’ll try Sega Saturn when I get a chance.

Added preliminary support for loading Sega Saturn games from disk without dumping on SuperStation. It needs some additional work to make it more seamless. PC-Engine CD is next.

Rounding out the week with adding support for playing physical audio CDs on SS1. It works in any core with audio CD support in the BIOS.

Exploring the idea of having the SS1 logo come as a high gloss part of the front shell with a set of decals in the box that you can use to customize. Stock high gloss, PS1 colors, monochrome white or gray, and holographic.

The latest revision of the SuperDock removes the duplicate S-Video port that is now part of SS1, adds a Type-C UART port, and adds a big IO expansion port in the back for future hardware.

The most valuable thing I learned from this was to remove barriers that increase the time it takes to iterate on failed designs. Our current design would have saved us at least 8 months of just waiting. Here’s a BTS talking about how we cut the iteration time down to 3-4 days.

$399 was cheaper than I expected for the promo price. They seem on track to beat the average units sold in their last 21 campaigns just in the first 24 hours of this one.

One further change: We added a toggle switch to the side of the SNAC port to disable the PSX controller ports and route the signals to the dedicated SNAC port on the dock. The port is compatible with our N64 and SNES SNAC adapters. There is a Bypass On/Off label not pictured.
