This week’s new challenge: grading grain! Surprised to find it was a whole diff level of attention to detail and training your 👀 vs scouting In this sample, a lovely pest that recently appeared in this area is responsible for the downgrade #WSS

Toured the #Dekalb seed production facility before checking out #AgExpo. Good reminder of what all goes into new hybrids & brings back memories of my summer working in parent seed. Thanks to Crop Science Canada for showing some Parrish & Heimbecker, Ltd staff and farmers around!

Very intriguing read w/ afternoon coffee - “it’s service with technology, not technology with service, that really drives adoption and utilization.” As agronomists, we need to understand where our customers want to go & help weed out the new tech to best suit those needs/goals

OK. Sowthistles. And I am not claiming to be an expert of any kind. Julia Leeson has to review this with me every year I think. We have 3 species we deal with typically in the Prairies. 1) Perennial sow thistle, 2)annual sow thistle and 3) spiny annual sow thistle 1/n

When I tell you how excited I got over these little bales and this itty bitty baler, it’s almost embarrassing… Pretty sure the farmer only gave me some to get me to leave 😅

Current #Alberta moisture situation… Early rainfalls for crops meant off to quick and good establishment. However, the high heat and lack of rains in late June & July are likely to result in crop conditions deteriorating quickly. #cdnag #weather #markets

Those of you that farmed thru the tough years, what advice would you give to younger farmers witnessing this for the first time? What did you do different. What got you thru it? What would you do different? Please re-tweet. I really want to see a broad number of responses.

So, ag-Twitter. It's time to "help an ento out". If you find canola flower midge in the pods of your canola field, take 10 sweeps and estimate the Lygus bug pressure in your field as well as note the number of pods with midge larvae. Why? Maybe Lygus holes =midge egg sites

Shelley is amazing to work with and the work her and her crew do is absolutely invaluable! They don’t take too much time and are real easy to do if they are on fields you’re already scouting. Send her a message if you’re interested!

Help a researcher out! Hiroshi Kubota and I need to know, if you were selecting a crop to grow this season based solely on market (spring wheat last year, if you care), what would you be picking for the upcoming field season? If your choice isn't listed, please comment!

Will GenAI replace agronomists? Some say yes. Entirely. One VC even stated: “The 10,000 registered crop advisors in the US are going to be replaced 100% by AI.” I have a different perspective. I think it will replace less than 10% of agronomists and trusted advisors. AI is
