Interventions to improve students' sense of belonging have been shown to have huge impact in the US – but could the same strategies work to improve attendance, behaviour and outcomes in schools over here? tes.com/magazine/teach…

I visit schools every week, and find this: 1. Most schools have some form of restriction on phones 2. Complete bans are uncommon. Most schools have a variation of ‘out of sight/ in bag’ 3. About half of schools don’t enforce this well enough, so phones still happen, furtively

We've had a fabulous response to our Prom dress and Prom suit collection and we're over the moon! Last chance to donate to any of our Secondary Schools in Patchway, Winterbourne, Abbeywood or Bradley Stoke. Thank you to everyone who has donated already.

Tackling disadvantage in schools? Rob Carpenter (Rob Carpenter ) shared key insights & resources ASCL 's conference on addressing disadvantage in education. Read Rob's blog where he shares summary thoughts on how schools are defying the odds. inspirepartnership.my.canva.site/rob-carpenter-…

This is very common: 1. School implements new systems 2. Parents with most challenging children feel that it’s too strict or unnecessary. 3. Pushback against school, often supported by local press, chasing outrage traffic 4. Wait six months 5. School becomes massively more calm

Welcome the report, yet we've known how inadequate MH provision has been for years, and gov headlines on MH support coming barely scratch surface. Schls and YP need a response quickly. If we want to get YP into school, then let's actually transform, not stick a plaster on it

A superb article from Schools Week on the SENCO workload situation, again validating the experience of SENCOs on the front line of this SEND crisis. A crisis, however, is an opportunity for change. Do check it out. schoolsweek.co.uk/burnt-out-and-…

🧵 School absences At present there are some very lazy narratives being peddled as to why some kids are not attending school which ignore the multi-faceted cobweb of reasons that actually exist. These factors include…

Where oh where is KCSIE 25? I called DFE last week, and they couldn't give me a date for publication. This is putting unnecessary stress on DSLs. There is a lot to plan for and prepare for September Department for Education

100% agree with you, Tom! It's madness, and we are certainly not preparing children for adulthood and the need for resilience and perseverance for what's ahead.

Despite best intentions and significant investment, England’s SEND system is failing too many students and their families. To fix it, we need to understand why. Mega-thread summary of my presentation at #FestivalOfEducation today: ↓

Writing attendance training ...putting in something I've talked alot about- the need for attendance to be thought of in the same way as safeguarding in terms of knowledge transfer, induction, support frameworks etc. Everyone has a role in creating a strong attendance culture.
