It was fascinating speaking just now with Jan Stonyhurst Collections to hear how forensic work & physical objects & archives come together in investigating #JesuitRelics for #RelicExhibition! We can't wait to hear conclusions. 🤓🔍🔬🦴
This week's School Archives and Records Association #FromtheArchive is #SchoolCCF. The Stonyhurst Cadet Training Corps was founded in 1900, and here is the Fife Band c.1901 under the direction of Drum-Sergeant Taylor. A young Aidan Liddell (VC 1915) is sitting on Taylor's right #lookingthewrongway

Last week our curator Dr Graffius spoke to The Royal Photographic Society about the fascinating early photographer Roger Fenton, his links to Stonyhurst, and his photographs of the school and estate in the 1850s. The full talk can be found here: youtu.be/veU99C_ykI4
Happy #Lancashire Day! Sir Richard Shireburn (builder of Stonyhurst Hall) was 'knight of the shire' for the county at the Parliament of 1553, and MP for Preston and Liverpool in the 1550s. This unattributed portrait of him aged 54 is dated 1576. #iflookscouldkill #beardgoals
To celebrate today’s #feastday is the #EdmundCampion rope #JesuitRelic we are privileged to look after on behalf of Jesuits in Britain & which will feature in the upcoming #RelicExhibition with British Jesuit Archives
With end of term upon us, we wish the whole Stonyhurst @StonyhurstSMH community a peaceful #Advent and #MerryChristmas (Annunciation of the Virgin Mary, Boardman MS XXXIII, ascribed to the Master of the Harvard Hannibal, active c.1415-1430)
This week's #FromtheArchive School Archives and Records Association is #SchoolWinter. This photo of the Avenue c.1908 shows pupils ice-skating on the 17thC canals. This favourite winter pastime Stonyhurst continued well into the 20thC #bitreckless #donttrythisathome
Stonyhurst Collections will be displaying the eye of #EdwardOldcorne as one of the #JesuitRelics in the #RelicExhibition. Here is a sketch of the relic as found in #Jesuit John Morris “Notes and Letters on Relics of the English Martyrs” volume held British Jesuit Archives
Think teenager slang is a modern thing? Think again! This is taken from a dialogue c1806 between 4 Stonyhurst pupils (named Mr ‘A’, B, C and D). Apparently this was a good distraction from the ‘insipid’ Xenophon they’d been given #teenagersneverchange #theypreferredCicero
A slightly festive box of photographs, including Browsholme Hall, Waddow Hall Activity Centre and Stonyhurst Collections, by Elijah Bolton of Low Moor. archivecat.lancashire.gov.uk/calmview/TreeB…
The #SchoolBuildings Stonyhurst have changed over the years! Photos #FromTheArchives show our 1st South Front (1810) and its vast replacement built by Dunn & Hansom in the early 1880s
Happy to announce that our joint with Stonyhurst Collections online #RelicExhibition ‘How bleedeth burning love?: British Jesuit Province’s relics of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales.’ should now be ready to launch in mid February!
What question would you pose about #relics if you were interviewing Stonyhurst Collections curator Jan Graffius for a podcast?
