If you’re driving through Trego County this morning, you’re going to encounter blowing dust. Slow down and turn your headlights on. KS law requires headlights if the visibility is less than 1,000 ft. #KSwx

Big krotovina from 62-77 cm in this soil from Thomas Co, KS. This is a burrow made by an animal of some kind. Lots of coyote and badger activity and they are probably digging up what made these burrows in this pretty loess soil.

Soil Genesis and Classification Lab today at Rannels Range Unit where students are learning how to ID hydric soils from guest lecturer Dr. Colby Moorberg. The plastic strips are IRIS films. The Mn (black) shows more removal than the Fe (orange).

First #soil in Cameroon is this Oxisol (way top of road cut) weathering in gniess. We dug around that gniess a lot looking at saprolite weathering. Man on the left is my gracious host Dr. Georges Ndzana of Dschang U.

Today's Cameroon happenings included a roadtrip from Yaounde to Chang and tons of Oxisols, including the house! Lunch was grilled plums (like an avocado) and grilled plantains. Used a thesis page as a plate

Made a display for my office of #soil pans. Big white one is Bqm from Idaho, which means its a duripan cemented with mostly silica. Small white is petrocalcic aka caliche from NW KS, Bkkm cemented with carbonates. Orange/black is orstein, Bsm, Wisonsin, cemented with iron

Gah. I see my one and only DOGE request did not happen. Vaguely, it was in regards to DOT and FMCSA. Safety is important, that's obvious. But FMSCA paperwork is a nightmare, and the drug and alcohol testing procedures make zero sense, plus why does the employer pay for it?!?!
