Do the models we use in comp. neuro. really have to be that large? For V4 neurons, we found compact DNN models that are highly-predictive yet 1000x smaller than current DNN models. #cosyne2022 poster II-116 tonight (Fri)! joint work with Pati Stan, Matt Smith Jonathan Pillow

@cmuneurosci and CMU Psychology are undertaking a joint tenure-track search (assistant or associate level). Spread the word! apply.interfolio.com/105767

Update of potential interest: I'll be starting a comp neuro group at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in Sept 2022! Our group will build closed-loop machine learning techniques and interpretable, data-driven models to understand the step-by-step computations of the brain.

Welcome to Assistant Prof Benjamin Cowley! His lab will study how the brain processes information gathered by the senses, creating computer models to capture the step-by-step calculations across neural circuits. cshl.edu/benjamin-cowle…

Now that we University of Chicago Neuroscience Institute just hired 2 faculty in Computational Neuroscience we are addicted to it. We will be hiring 2 more faculty this round in Comp Neuro - one in the Department of Neurobiology and one in the Department of Physics. Please apply! apply.interfolio.com/133134

🚨Awesome news alert🚨 Our Computational Neuroscience & Machine Learning Course is back!! When: 8-24th July 2024 Where: CMU-Africa campus, Kigali, Rwanda Applications open: 15th January 2024 Applications close: 15th February 2024 For news on the course follow TReND-CaMinA

New the tweeprint server! Compact deep neural network models of visual cortex B. Cowley, P. Stan, J. Pillow*, M. Smith* tiny.cc/dmxhvz Task-driven DNN models nicely predict neural responses but have millions of params---next to impossible to explain. Do they need to be so large?
