It’s critical for the principal to set the example of what behaviors are acceptable in the school. This requires consistency and a high degree of congruence between what the leader says and does. Inconsistency results in confusion and staff often not believing words spoken.

#ThoughtForTheDay When we discipline S’s we can get caught in the trap of reacting in a negative way when we don’t get the change in behavior we want. Not all S’s react the same way 2 consequences. As adults, we must be prepared 2 try a different approach 4 each child. #Culturize

"The best teachers in your school know the background of their students better than anybody and never use it as an excuse. The worst teachers know nothing about the background of their students and always use it as an excuse" Getting real with Todd Whitaker. #empower19

Have a student you're struggling with & you're out of ideas? Try the 'two-by-ten' strategy: For two minutes each day, 10 days in a row, have a personal conversation with the #student about anything the student is interested in, but NO school or behavior. #edchat #education

Have you seen teachers and/or parents that yell a lot? Do you notice that the kids keep acting up? Yelling doesn't change behaviors. Building relationships and social- emotional learning do. #SEL hackingschooldiscipline.com

I hear this question asked to teachers but almost never to administrators. It is the principal who can stifle creativity, imagination, and risk-taking or empower staff to find their greatness.

One lesson I’ve learned as a 25-year educator... the path to success is not filled with perfection, it’s filled with failures. A good support system is necessary on the journey. #CompelledED #JoyfulLeaders
