Hockey Canada has just released a report that shows HC refs called 512 penalties during the 2021-2022 for discrimination slurs

Here is a breakdown of the discrimination calls made by HC refs by jurisdictions: 152 Ontario Hockey Federation 81 Hockey Alberta 71 Hockey Eastern Ontario 55 BC Hockey 51 Hockey Quebec

According to Hockey Canada: U18 leagues were responsible for 55% of all discrimination penalties during the 2021-2022 season.

Among the penalties called HC released that 18% of the calls were related to race while 61% were related to sexual orientation and or gender identity. 99% of the discrimination penalties were assessed to males.

On top of the 512 penalties called, HC released that there were an 415 allegations of discrimination in which HC refs did not hear the alleged offences. Among the allegations 18% led to suspensions, 17% resulted in written warnings and 37% were considered unsubstantiated.
