20 July 1917: SS Salsette was on voyage with 31 passengers and 20 tons of cargo from London to Marseille and Bombay, when it was torpedoed by UB+40 off Lyme Bay. All passengers were evacuated but 15 crew perished. The wreck is a popular dive site in the UK. #history #scubadiving

27 July 1862: The mail and passenger steamer SS Golden Gate was on voyage from San Francisco to Panama when it caught fire off Manzanillo, Mexico carrying 96 crew, 242 passengers, and $1.4 million in gold coins. Escape was difficult and 204 lost their lives. #history
