With a week of Statcast data on Caglianone, I want to talk about his results a bit and give some context to the data, so thread below. TLDR - he's hitting the ball hard but there's more to it than being unlucky

One thing I didn't get to in my tweet because the data isn't available yet for Caglianone is swing/take runs and plate discipline. It's also about doing damage when you don't swing.

Side note: it's quite possible I'm doing the Stathead search wrong, but the longest streak without taking a walk to start their MLB career for a Royals batter is Paul Phillips, we went 106 straight PAs without. I think Cags probably gets one before that

.415 BABIP over that span (7th highest). Was at .179 in the prior 30 days (17th lowest). Past 30: .418 wOBA vs .374 xwOBA 30 before that: .282 wOBA vs .326 xwOBA Think that's always going to be the story of Paquantino: do the liners and grounders sneak through or not.

It wasn't close at first but Kevin Cash probably should have asked for a review anyways. Nothing to lose on the game tying play.

Okay now I am wondering if it would be legal for an MLB team to build literal ladders or like levels into their outfield walls so fielders could rob home runs easier.

Stacast doesn't have data for Caglianone's home to 1st time but the correlation of sprint speed (which we do have for Cags) and HP to 1B is pretty high. Need more competitive runs to really hone in, but his build and positional history doesn't prelude much speed.
