What’s the hardest lesson you’ve learned as a business owner?

Before kids, you think you're busy. Then you have 1 and realize you weren't busy at all. Then you have a second and realize the same thing....and so on. They expand your capacity and open up new layers of capability. Impossible to understand without experiencing.

What’s one lesson parenthood taught you that made you better at running a business ?

If your payroll if 50%+ of revenue, you don't have a labor problem. You have a leadership problem. You can't blame staff for what you don't manage.

What’s the most overrated business "best practice" you’ve seen?

Every Saturday morning in the fall I wake up HYPED for my sons U11 soccer games. We're really gonna get after it today I can feel it.

Business owners have control issues. It's part of what got them to start the business in the first place but it also can be a detriment. Eventually you'll be the main bottleneck if you don't figure that out and give up the need to control.

Been prepping for an upcoming conference for a few weeks. Has caused me to reflect on the year since the same conference last year. Last years vision has now become a reality. Significantly more prepared for the conference this year and a ton more to share with what has worked

A friend asked why build a labor tool when "software companies should already do this." My answer: I waited years for them. They didn’t. So I did It also turns out the market wanted it.

Receiving an ungodly amount of cold outreach mostly for SEO or CRM services. There is no option to unsubscribe and they just keep emailing me as if we’ve been having an ongoing conversation. The ai cold outreach machines must be working overtime. Anybody else ?

Day 3. FIRED up, today is presentation day. On a professional note- Nothing better than independent owners who care enough to take advantage or opportunities and find ways to grow and improve their business.

That's a wrap. Had an amazing conference. Finished my presentation to close it out and headed directly to airport. Heading to New Jersey to coach my kids and a bunch of other kids at a BJJ tournament. We'll be coming home with hardware to hang in the gym.

Had a good day yesterday. Daughter got 2nd, son got 3rd. Gym brought home the first place team trophy.
