might get interesting on IESO grid today This is the highest net export level in over a decade (and 2nd highest in two decades!) lots of gas (and maybe some oil) capacity left to spark up, but still more consumption to come too - likely to more than we've seen since coal here

European wind giant Orsted plunges for a 2nd consecutive day. Its shares are down another ~7%, after losing nearly 30% on Monday. At current prices, the emergency equity injection it's seeking ($9.4 billion) equals to >70% of its current market cap of $13.2 billion. No bueno.

“Chronic under-investment in the grid over the past few decades has resulted in these constraint payments,” said a confidence man to distract from over-investment in low-value power. ft.com/content/e74816…

I have concerns Hydro One: -that you'll be changing comms with blackouts to advise there are updates being done, and give up on estimating time of service restoration? -you changed portal service provider from @sense to Schneider Electric Canada 😬

Electricity prices are exploding, outpacing much of the rest of the economy. Inflation plays a role, but it’s far from the whole story. AI, EVs, natural gas, and a maxed-out grid are pushing costs higher than ever. (a thread)

Green hydrogen faces major issues, leading to cancellations or delays. Integrated projects are the most successful. Europe struggles with green hydrogen projects: 🟤LEAG indefinitely postponed its green energy hub in eastern Germany. 🟤ArcelorMittal abandoned a €2.5 billion

at the time of that video Ontario's industrial wind turbine fleet was producing at ~2% of capacity (100 MW from 5,000 MWe). Money boys have a history of being a disaster for Ontario's electricity ratepayer - from Strong to Reid to ...

Fascinating episode! I listened to it today on the train to go meet up with someone and catch up. When we met up, he had been listening to it on his train ride too!

Oh fuck off! TSMC was pressured to build factories in Arizona against its own commercial interests. Biden: ahhh but you’ll get your chips act money! Lutnick: Chips act money? Hahaha we will want TSMC stocks for that. At what point does this stop being a shakedown and become

It’s happening.,. PEI utility says it has an “urgent need” to build more fossil fuel-based generating capacity to address the widespread switching from oil furnaces to heat pumps. The initial cost of new generation would push up electricity rates by 10%. cbc.ca/news/canada/pr…

I think reality made this stuff up years ago. The stagnancy in electricity demand was not matched, to the same extent, in other home energy sources (gas!), and fuel switching was bound to increase electricity demand. low capacity value renewables can't provide firm winter supply
