'Move it, move it'. No, not a reference to the Madagascar animated film but a reflection on this bumblebee in Bohuslän, Sweden, which clearly preferred the easier route to checking out the flowers.

Allium adventures! How about we start the week with a slow-motion film of a tree bumblebee exploring an allium opportunity. 🐝🌼🐝

As #WorldBeeDay draws to a conclusion let's celebrate Buglife Scotland's B-Lines projects. Their insect highways across Scotland are making an impact. You can read about their Aberdeen B-Lines here @ scottishpollinators.wordpress.com/2024/09/02/eng…

We have a guest blog for you this week. David Haines is a keen naturalist who lives in Assynt. He is also a talented photographer, and in this short blog shares a sample of his images with the intention of raising awareness of the wildlife in Assynt. scottishpollinators.wordpress.com/2025/05/19/a-f…

We increasingly recognise the links between nature and health. A number of hospitals in Scotland use their grounds to help patients, and nurture nature. Our information sheet is intended to help grounds managers who are looking for inspiration and ideas. nature.scot/doc/hospital-g…

The pollen stuck to a bumble bee's corbiculae (pollen baskets) will end up as food for baby bees; from the plants' perspective, it's a loss of resources. Judiciously dabbing it with poison could have prevented that. Athayde's blog @ scottishpollinators.wordpress.com

After the recent prolonged spell of good weather there are plenty of insects on the wing here, and lots in flower along the banks of The Tay. Although things were getting a little crowded on some flowers !

A bit breezy down by the river this morning, although common sandpiper and kingfisher made light of the gusts. One or two pollinators out too, with wasps busy under the boardwalk.

Well done to the team at Perth & Kinross council. Perth's North Inch is a great example of multi-use with nature-friendly approaches. No mowing under trees, areas for bulbs and wildflowers ... all great stuff for our pollinators. Congratulations on a fine approach. 🌼🐝🦋

Let's start our week with a little slice of Italy and a short video of a busy carpenter bee near Florence's Giardino Bardini. Amongst Europe's largest bees, their distinctive appearance (and sound) make chance encounters a pollinator pleasure. 🐝🏵️

Gardeners don’t like aphids, but these insects have a major role in food chains. They are also likely to have a minor but not negligible part in pollination ecology, even though details of these workings are yet to be revealed. Athayde's latest blog @ scottishpollinators.wordpress.com
