First Minister John Swinney has led Brand Scotland 🏴’s presence at the annual Tartan Day Parade in New York City. The parade down Sixth Avenue celebrates Scotland’s lasting cultural and historical connections with the USA and Canada.



Scotland's influence and culture is being championed on the world stage during Tartan Week. At the iconic Carnegie Hall, First Minister John Swinney hosted a VIP reception for Brand Scotland 🏴 and explained why it is an excellent place to live, work, study, visit and do business.


First Minister John Swinney championed the mutually beneficial trade links between Scotch whisky firms and the US. Addressing Scotch Whisky Association members and US partners in New York, he said spirit exports and bourbon cask imports support jobs and investments in both countries.

Speaking at an event at the Council on Foreign Relations with MargaretHoover, First Minister John Swinney highlighted Scotland’s role as a good global citizen and said Scottish Government will continue to collaborate with our friends and partners to make a positive contribution to global challenges.


The Kirkin O’ the Tartan service involves blessing various tartans and is a longstanding ceremonial part of #TartanWeek. Ahead of the Tartan Day parade last week, First Minister John Swinney delivered a reading to guests at Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church.


On Tartan Day, First Minister John Swinney was warmly welcomed to America’s favourite pastime at New York Mets vs Toronto Blue Jays. The First Minister watched performances by Edinburgh Tattoo by the Citi Field Stadium & presented a kilt & sash to the team mascots.
