It’s taken me two weeks to find the strength to write this. Not because I lacked the words, but because the emotional toll of what happened in Lisbon needed time to settle in my body. This thread is about grief, pressure, erasure, responsibility, and what we carry as artists.

On the main stage of the conference, Sixela 🔗 and I presented AMOR VITAE—a work built in response to 20 months of relentless annihilation in Gaza. It was not art for applause. It was a plea. A memorial. A refusal to look away. 2/

We traced a history that began in 1948. We showed statistics, destruction, loss; images that strip the soul. No fiction. No slogans. Just truth. Sourced from the United Nations, HumanRightsWATCH, and Amnesty International. 3/

But truth makes people uncomfortable. Days before the event, we were told our work was “offensive” and “propaganda”. They threatened to pull it from the program, to censor it. Not because it was false, but because it dared to mourn Palestine on a public stage. 4/

After internal pressure and a curator who defended creative freedom, the video was shown. But quietly. Our names were erased from official posts. No video. No mention. Nothing that proved we had ever stood on that stage. This is how silencing works. 5/

Not always through bans, but through quiet omission. Strategic invisibility. You can speak, they say. But only if no one hears you. 6/

It’s not the first time we’ve felt this pressure. But it might be the heaviest. Because we weren’t just fighting for artistic freedom, we were grieving, too. We were trying to hold space for those who no longer have a voice. 7/

To the artists, curators, collectors, and cultural workers reading this: If you’ve ever felt fear of telling the truth, you are not alone. The emotional burden is real. It takes time to recover. But we must keep going. 8/

Because art is not decoration. It is witnessing. It is resisting. And sometimes it is the only thing standing between remembering and forgetting. 9/
