#OnThisDay 100 Years ago, Dr Ivy Williams became the #first woman to qualify as a barrister in England & Wales. She had waited 17 yrs to receive her law degree from University of Oxford after passing exams in 1903, and was called to The Bar Council on 10 May 1922 by The Inner Temple.

Dame Sue Carr today becomes, and will be known as, the LCJ of England and Wales. She will be the President of the Courts of England and Wales and Head of the Judiciary of England and Wales. She is the 98th person to hold this office and the first woman.

We are delighted to announce that Lady Justice Simler will join the Supreme Court from November. Her exceptional career as a barrister and Judge, alongside her expertise in employment, public, tax, and criminal law will be highly valuable to us at UKSC. Welcome Dame Ingrid!
