All of the big challenges in the world (eg financial crises, climate change, pandemics etc) are global by definition and do not respect national boundaries. We need a new architecture to solve global challenges. Current architecture of G20, UN, conferences etc doesn’t cut it.

Agree Stephen Koukoulas - what kind of society would we become if we do not look after those that suffer the health and economic consequences of Covid-19?

Fuck it, I’m going 100% takeaway 1. Supermarkets have earned enough 2. Local businesses need support 3. I’ve always wanted to live like this

Utterly brilliant! In policy, messaging, in sincerity. In timing and leadership. Watch this. This was a couple of days ago, and here we are in Australia, waiting, waiting, waiting

Those that know me would probably say I am usually calm and measured. But my blood boiled when I saw this. My fellow beach-loving Australians... you are FUCKING BRAINLESS IDIOTS. This is premeditated murder. You are endangering your family, friends and an entire nation.

I understand the hardship that most people in our community face. The actions our federal & state governments, and our business community & employers, have taken should be embraced. So taking upto $20k out of your super seems like a good idea. But it is likely to be bad for you.

This breaks my heart ... Naser Ali Al-Shahrani, a nurse in Riyadh, broke down after having to refuse a hug from his young son running to greet him after his shift at the hospital.

Government: please do not delay locking down our country - it’s inevitable - how many people need to die before you act? The graph shows Australia’s future if we do not shutdown. Our death rate will be higher or lower, depending on how fast you act. Our biology is not different!

A good read. Leadership is critically important in a crisis. It’s appropriate people look to government to take control: it’s the ONLY institution with true power. And, in a democracy, government is the ONLY institution people ultimately hold accountable for overall public safety

In a crisis, everyone is a socialist. This is why we must insist on a permanent Universal Basic Income for all. With UBI, government *never* needs to introduce ad-hoc measures. Simply dial-up the UBI amount to exercise their responsibility to encourage, nudge or protect society.
