Learning how to listen deeply is one of life’s most important skills. Drama is the perfect place to practice this. One of the many reasons drama needs to be taught in schools.

Thank you so much for National Drama for this lovely book review! "The games are well arranged in both books, and Marsden’s top tips are professional gold. She writes from experience. She deeply understands the importance of play and authenticity, of empathy and teamwork."

I have dyslexia and at school felt like I was the problem, except for in drama. There I felt like a part of the solution, because in drama thinking outside of the box, imagination, failure, and non-written communication skills are celebrated!

When 609 parents, students, and teachers were asked if drama helps with social skills, 95.7% said that it does. Many jobs need you to have good social skills, which leads me to think that teaching drama in schools helps with employability.

Drama teachers are lucky as so often we can show what we’re trying to teach. When you introduce a drama game, play it. When explaining an improv exercise, do it. Don’t be shy to join in, even if you’re a terrible actor your students will be so grateful that you tried.

Sitting still behind a desk blocks many, so in this book I’ve created lots of ways to get your students up on their feet through drama so as to explore creative writing in a new way. Playing these games with your students might unleash the creative writer within you too!
