During parent consults, it is important that all emotions are welcomed. Fear, anger, sadness, grief, joy, excitement, loneliness. How are we supposed to hold a container for the child, if we cannot also hold a container for the parent doing their best to raise that child.

Parenting without shadow work is like locking pieces of your childhood in a dungeon and tormenting them while pretending to respect children. In an important way, shadow work *is* child-rearing.

In my 20s, I molded and contorted myself to be looked upon as valuable by those that would abuse or take advantage of me. In my 30s, I unlearned all of this and now seek friendship, love, and community from those that welcome me as I am.

I realized that I'm the first person in my immediate family and lineage, that I know of, to have agency in choosing what I do for work & finding alignment at all levels (not just for financial security or survival). Wondering what that is doing to me on a neurological level 🧠🤯

Pondering the qualities of nurturing, tenderness, and caretaking as a mother. Nurturing cares and listens. Tenderness caresses and treats. Caretaking disempowers and obliges.

Writing a post about parenting from the perspective of inner parts, and I'm realizing how much of the parenting world is laden with "shoulds". Parents should do X and parents should do Y....Kids should do X and kids should do Y. It's an epidemic. What does wanting (not shoulding)

A parent’s spiritual journey can integrate the whole family. Allowing our children to bear witness and share in our own personal growth and practice is an amazing gift.

Working with the first instances of shame in children is the epitome of trusting the gut. They know something is off in their system. It's visceral and wants to move.
